THE Environmental Impact Assessment on a proposed $600 million hotel and tourism project by Tian Lun Ltd in Nasese, Suva, has been put on hold.
This, according to Envi-Green Pacific Consultants head, Dr Paulo Vanualailai, who is the environmental consultant hired by the Chinese firm to conduct an EIA on the project.
He was responding to Department of Environment director Sandeep Singh who told journalists that they are expecting the EIA report from the consultant by June 21.
Dr Vanualailai said they had put the EIA on hold while the company and Lands Ministry sorted out an extension of development lease.
“Everything has been put on hold, this the safety net we are staying in at the moment,” he said.
He said they would proceed with their work once the development lease was secured. Efforts to get comments from Lands Ministry and Tian Lun Ltd last night were unsuccessful.
