
The Department of Environment has issued a Prohibition Notice to Dayals Steels Pte Ltd after the manufacturer breached the Environment Management Act 2005.
According to the Prohibition Notice the company which was based in Yalalevu, Ba had breached the Act by failing to comply with the conditions of the Operational Environment Management Plan (OEMP) approval dated June 25, 2020.
It said according to Condition 9 of the OEMP stack emissions tests must be conducted by an independent air quality specialist and analyed before steel mill operations begin and on a monthly basis during the operational period.
Condition 28 states an Environmental Monitoring Committee (EMC) must be established and should consists of the following members: Department of Environment, Ba Town Council, Provincial Administrator Ba, Ministry of Labour and Community representative, a representative of Dayals Steels Pte Ltd and an Independent air quality specialist.
