The Guideline is intended to assist and guide prospective developers (or their consultants) with an intention to carry out Level 3 activities in Papua New Guinea ("PNG"), to meet their legal obligations under Section 51 and Section 53 of Environment Act 2000 (the "Act").

Mounting public concern over the quality of the environment and stricter environmental legislation have led to a demand for reliable environmental information on industries and other types of enterprises.

Key water security issues are broken down into three main categories: water quality, water quantity, and social impacts. In mine water issues, water quality often supersedes quantity, as other industries, particularly agricultural, consume more water.
